A catamaran charter in Mpenitses, more commonly known as Benitses, combines spacious onboard living with access to Corfu’s eastern coast and the wider Ionian Sea. The village occupies a narrow waterfront between the sea and green hills, with its marina, beaches, restaurants and everyday services concentrated within a walkable area.
A catamaran’s twin hulls create broad communal spaces and greater stability, with less heel than a comparable monohull. This can make cruising and moving around the deck more comfortable for families and groups. From Benitses, itineraries can range from coastal sightseeing near Corfu Town to longer trips toward Paxos, Antipaxos and the Epirus mainland. Travelers who have not settled on a boat type can also compare yacht charters in Mpenitses.
Northbound cruising follows Corfu’s east coast toward Pontikonisi, Vlacherna Monastery and Corfu Town. This route can combine time on deck with a visit ashore to the UNESCO-listed Old Town, the Old Fortress or Vidos. It suits travelers who want a comparatively compact coastal outing with scenery and history rather than a long open-water passage.
Heading south opens up more ambitious itineraries. A day cruise may link Benitses with the sea caves of Paxos, Gaios or Lakka, followed by a swimming stop off Antipaxos. A multi-day circuit can add Sivota on the Epirus coast before returning via Paxos and Antipaxos. These longer legs involve open water and require closer attention to the forecast.
The catamaran format is particularly useful when the boat is a central part of the holiday. Wide cockpit and deck areas leave room for swimming stops, meals and relaxation, while cabins distributed between two hulls provide separation when several couples or family members travel together.
The main recreational boating season around Benitses runs from May into October. June through September generally brings the warmest, driest and most dependable conditions, with July and August forming the busiest period. May and September are attractive shoulder-season choices, while October can still work but brings a greater chance of unsettled weather.
During summer, mornings are often light. A northwesterly wind commonly develops around midday and eases toward sunset, typically reaching about Force 2–5 and becoming somewhat stronger on July and August afternoons. Lighter mornings can therefore be useful for longer passages or a relaxed start along the coast. Although persistent rough seas are uncommon in summer, trips toward Paxos, Antipaxos or the mainland should always be planned around the marine forecast. Winter is wetter, and normal leisure-charter activity is limited.
Catamarans suit families, groups of friends and multi-generational parties that value stable cruising and generous shared space. When comparing boats, consider the cabin configuration rather than capacity alone: cabins spread between the two hulls can improve privacy, but a skipper or additional crew may need dedicated accommodation.
Bareboat charter offers the greatest independence but requires appropriate experience and may require qualifications depending on the boat and operator. A skippered charter removes the need for guests to handle the vessel, while a larger crew may add cooking, housekeeping or guest service on suitably equipped boats.
Also compare swimming access, cockpit and foredeck space, equipment and whether you prefer a sailing or power catamaran. The wide beam that creates extra living room also requires more space in a marina, so berthing arrangements should be confirmed before arrival. For multi-day routes, balance ambitious island-hopping plans with enough time for swimming, going ashore and enjoying the boat itself.
viravira.co currently features 10 in the Mpenitses charter context. Available layouts range from 4 to 6, with stated capacities between 8 and 12. Eligible options start from €410.
Completed catamaran bookings average 8, which aligns well with multi-day cruising toward Paxos, Antipaxos and the mainland. Based on 9, the average rating is 4.6. Compare cabin arrangements, crew accommodation and charter format carefully, since boats with similar capacities can offer quite different levels of privacy and communal space. The views, the sea and the food were all great. The catamaran wasn’t completely ready to sail when we arrived at the marina, and I noticed a few things that needed to be fixed before departure.
